Who is Jack Petchey?
"You'll never make a businessman"!
Jack Petchey is one of the UK's most successful businessmen. Born in the East London in July 1925, Jack came from a working class background with very few advantages. From an early age he showed the entrepreneurial skills that have aided his success.
Having left school at 14 Jack worked in the Fleet Air Arm in 1943. At the end of the war he left the Navy and became a clerk. He applied for management training there, but was told he would never make a businessman! So Jack Petchey decided to go it alone. With £39 discharge gratuity from the Navy, he bought his first second hand car and started a taxi business and later branched into property.
Having just celebrated his 85th birthday, there is no sign of Jack Petchey slowing down. He currently manages Petchey Holdings Plc and Petchey Leisure, a management company for several holiday resorts in Spain, Portugal and the UK.
In 1999, he set up the Jack Petchey Foundation as he wanted to give opportunities to young people in London. Over the last ten years he has donated over £65million to schools, clubs and projects which benefit young people in London. In 2004 Jack was awarded an OBE at Buckingham Palace, by Her Majesty the Queen.

Jack Petchey Scheme at St. Anne’s
At St. Anne’s we successfully run the Jack Petchey Foundation scheme in which 9 students across all year groups are nominated by their peers for something that deserves recognition and celebration. Students have been nominated for many reasons, a few of these include: Getting good grades, Charity work, being a good and supportive friend and helping to organise school events and activities. We also take part in the Leader Award scheme whereby a member of staff is nominated to receive an award in recognition for outstanding contributions to the school or local community.
During assemblies theses students are presented with a certificate and badge in recognition of their achievements. They also receive a fund of £200 to spend on a project or resource for the school or local community that will further benefit young people.
Award winners are further recognised and invited along with their families and with students from many schools in Enfield to attend the annual Jack Petchey Celebration evening where all award winners are invited onto the stage and presented with a medallion from the Jack Petchey Foundation.
