AIMS: 

The Music department aims to promote music both within the classroom, the school and the wider community. Our music lessons aim to encourage curiosity, creativity, competence and a love of music through performance, composition and listening activities. Such activities enable progress through an increase of self-confidence and a sense of achievement, through the development of their social skills in working together effectively with their peers and through a critical engagement with music.   

KS3 CURRICULUM:

At KS3, students are introduced to a range of musical styles and within each music style, students learn to discern and appraise the different musical elements that make up a unique musical style through listening, performing and composing.

KS4 CURRICULUM

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Music clubs and ensembles are being developed post-COVID. Current clubs include Band Club, Guitar Club and Mass and Event Choir. Clubs and Ensembles in planning include the School Ensemble, Keyboards and Music Theory Club plus Ukulele Club. Many students participate in St Anne’s flagship Gospel Choir. ST. ANNE'S GOSPEL CHOIR

Gospel Choir runs every Monday after school from 3.30-5.00pm and all students are invited to join.  Over the recent years the Gospel Choir has gone from strength to strength. Competing in the BBC Songs of Praise Young Choir of the Year 2018 Competition, finishing as Finalists is definitely a memorable moment - see video below. More recently, members of our Choir performed at the Royal British Legion's Royal Festival of Remembrance 2019, which was held at the Royal Albert Hall and in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen and The Royal Family.  

Recent performance opportunities have been at venues such as Oxford University, Royal Albert Hall, London Palladium, Royal Festival Hall and Central Hall in Westminster. The choir have also had a working relationship with Barclays in Canary Wharf and supported their Christmas fundraising in Canary Wharf shopping centre as well as the recent 50th Year Anniversary of the world's first ATM. Follow our Gospel Choir and listen to some of their performances here. 
 

MUSIC PROGRAMME WITH RESTORE THE MUSIC UK - SEPTEMBER 2021

We were awarded a substantial grant from Restore the Music UK, a charity dedicated to improving the music provision in state schools. This funding has allowed us to purchase a large number of new instruments and equipment that will transform the music curriculum at KS3.

Students can look forward to trying their hand at guitar, bass and drums, forming bands and rehearsing together in and out of lessons. Both music classrooms will be set up with new and high quality instruments and equipment. Look out for more extracurricular and performing opportunities next year as the Music department has big plans! We are very grateful to Restore the Music UK for choosing us to receive this life changing grant.
