Patronage System
At St. Anne’s we have a house system that is diverse; reflecting our student and staff body and one that encourages healthy competition. Students and Staff belong to a particular house, but we are still all part of one learning family.
New for September 2023
We have now moved to a horizontal Patronage system, where each year group is attached to a Catholic Patron.
The Patrons were chosen due to their unique qualities and God given gifts, as well as being strong, diverse women of faith. We feel that their qualities match our students’ here at St. Anne’s. Each patron has had a specially commissioned artwork which beautifully depicts the gifts and talents she has in gorgeous detail, as well as the colour afforded to her, that represents the year group.
Students wear lanyards of the colour of their Patron. Each year group learn about their patron in RE lessons, assemblies and gatherings within the “feast fortnights” which celebrate the feast days of the patrons. Each patron also has a specific theme attached, which links to her Catholic patronage and which we have chosen to match the year group very carefully, so the girls will engage not only with their patron, but the theme she brings too.
As they move through the years, they will learn about each patron in turn, so that by the end of their journey at St. Anne’s they will have learnt about all six. See attachment below for more information.
THE HOUSES AND HOUSE PATRONS ARE:
Year 7: Kateri
Saint Kateri Tekakwitha was the first Native American Saint. She is the Patron Saint of the Environment and her theme is the environment.
Year 10: Catherine
Saint Catherine of Alexandria was Egyptian-born, famously tortured for her religion on a spiked wheel. Her theme is “Skills”. Saint Catherine of Alexandria (students and skills such as debate).
Year 8: Teresa
Saint Mother Teresa (Teresa of Calcutta) was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary.
Her link to charity is strong, and her theme is charity.
Year 11: Seton
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was the first woman to open a Catholic school in America. She is the Patron Saint of Catholic Schools. Her theme is Education.
Year 9: Joan of Arc
Saint Joan of Arc is a French national heroine and the patron Saint of service women.
Her theme is vocation.
Sixth Form: Bowman
Sister Thea Bowman is the only non-saint of our group. Her theme will be “Cultural heritage”. A cause for canonisation has been opened for Bowman. She has been designated a Servant of God.
